The BODE index as a tool to predict survival in COPD lung transplant candidates.

چکیده
SIGNIFICANT This has been with us for decades. It is sometimes accompanied by statistical probability values in parentheses. It literally means ‘‘full of meaning or import’’ [1]. Used alone it means the authors are stressing, but not justifying, the scientific importance of their results. Even if significant, the results are often unimportant, uninteresting and unconvincing. Unfortunately the word will be with us for many more decades.

The Significance of BODE (BMI, Obstruction, Dyspnea, Exercise) Index in Patients with Mustard Lung
Introduction: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) secondary to sulfur mustard exposure, known as mustard lung, is an important late pulmonary complication. The BODE (Body mass index, Obstruction, Dyspnea, and Exercise) index has been established as a valuable tool for determining the adverse consequences of COPD. The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of the BODE index in pat...
متن کاملSurvival impact of lung transplantation for COPD.
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is the primary indication for lung transplantation (LTx), but survival benefit is still under debate. We analysed the survival impact of LTx in COPD with a new approach, using the BODE (body mass index, airway obstruction, dyspnoea, exercise capacity) index. We retrospectively reviewed 54 consecutive lung transplants performed for COPD. The pre-trans...
متن کاملLung transplantation in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: patient selection and special considerations
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a leading cause of mortality and morbidity. Lung transplantation is one of the few treatments available for end-stage COPD with the potential to improve survival and quality of life. The selection of candidates and timing of listing present challenges, as COPD tends to progress fairly slowly, and survival after lung transplantation remains limited...
متن کاملMulticomponent indices to predict survival in COPD: the COCOMICS study.
Guidelines recommend defining chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) by airflow obstruction and other factors, but no studies have evaluated the ability of existing multicomponent indices to predict mortality up to 10 years. We conducted a patient-based pooled analysis. Survival analysis and C statistics were used to determine the best COPD index/indices according to several construct var...
متن کاملEffects of conjugated linoleic acid supplementation on serum levels of interleukin-6 and sirtuin 1 in COPD patients
Objective: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is characterized by systemic inflammation and accelerated inflammaging of the lungs. Some studies showed that conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) has anti-inflammatory effects. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of CLA supplementationon serum levels of interleukin (IL)-6 and sirtuin1 (SIRT1) in patients wit...
